Minister for Education Dan Tehan today urged school students to stay at school and take part in the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence.

"March 15 is the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence and we want every student and every school to use this day to send a message that we won’t stand for bullying," Mr Tehan said.

"More than 4,870 schools, with more than two million students, across Australia have now registered to take part in the National Day of Action.

"The National Day of Action is an opportunity for our school students to show a united front against bullying.

"Around half of all students in Years 3 to 5 report some level of bullying and one in five young Australians have experienced cyberbullying.

"What people do in their own time is their own business. I urge all students, parents and schools to make the commitment to go to school on 15 March and show solidarity with their fellow students who may have experienced bullying, whether in the schoolyard or online, and who need their support."
