Reappointment as Minister for Education

Media Release
  • Minister for Education
I thank Prime Minister Scott Morrison for once again asking me to serve as Minister for Education.

It is a great honour to continue in this important role and I will retain my focus on ensuring our record investment in child care, pre-school, primary and secondary school, and higher education leads to improved student results and outcomes.

I will ensure the education policy we took to the election; which includes a voluntary phonics health check for every Year 1 student, improving teacher quality and an expansion of the successful Regional Study Hubs program, is implemented.

In addition, I will continue the Morrison Government’s focus on addressing pre-school attendance amongst vulnerable, rural and remote, and indigenous children. I will also continue to implement our child care reforms and take strong action against dodgy and non-compliant child care providers.

I also look forward to working with the State and Territory Education Ministers to deliver our school reform agenda and ensuring the important work undertaken by David Gonski continues to be implemented.
Every Australian child, no matter where they live, should have access to the best educational opportunities. It is why continuing the work we have begun with higher education providers to lift Australia’s attainment rate outside of our capital cities will remain a paramount priority.
I would like to lastly thank again the electorate of Wannon for putting its faith in me. It is only possible to serve as Australia’s Education Minister because of the wonderful support my local communities have given me.
