Improving Trans-Tasman student and worker mobility

A new report released today highlights the importance of the comparability of Australia’s and New Zealand’s national qualifications frameworks to opening up opportunities for students and workers in both countries.
This report is a welcome and significant step towards harmonising educational and employment arrangements between Australia and New Zealand.
The Commonwealth Government regards the relationship we share with New Zealand as one of our most important, so improving the understanding of respective qualifications for study and work opportunities between our two countries is beneficial for this relationship.
This report is the result of a joint project between the Federal Department of Education and Training and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) to compare the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) and the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF).
The outcomes of this important project will enhance Australia’s international leadership in qualifications frameworks, qualifications recognition policy and it will also complement existing mobility arrangements between Australia and New Zealand.
This will result in greater student and worker mobility for Australian graduates, and greater collaboration between our two countries in the future.
A wide range of Australian education and training stakeholders were consulted throughout the development of this report, including the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency and the Australian Skills Quality Authority. NZQA also consulted widely with its stakeholders.
The findings in this report will help open up opportunities for future education and research exchange so our countries can work together to achieve the best results.
